What is the difference between self-enrollment, self registration, and open registration?

Self-enrollment, self-registration, and open registration can be enabled or disabled by Account Admins in account settings.

Self Enrollment

Self-enrollment allows students to use a secret URL or code to enroll themselves in a course. Sublime LMS accounts are created for each student by the institution; students are usually added via SIS import.

This option must be enabled or disabled by an account administrator at the account level.

If self-enrollment has been enabled by an administrator, instructors can choose to allow self-enrollment for their course, which can be enabled in course settings.

Self Registration

Self registration allows users without an account to create an account for themselves. Students still need a secret URL or code to join the course, but they can create their account during the course enrollment process.

Account Administrators can enable self registration by selecting the Self Registration checkbox in account settings. When you click the Self Registration checkbox, you have the option to enable self registration for All Account Types or Observer Accounts Only.

To allow self registration for all users, select the All Account Types option. To limit self registration to observers, select the Observer Accounts Only option.

Self registration for all account types will automatically add a Need a Sublime LMS Account? Click Here, It's Free banner on the login page. Self registration for observer accounts only will automatically add a Parent of a Sublime LMS User? Click Here for an Account banner on the login page.

Open Registration

Open registration allows students to be added to a course via email address, even if the students don't have a Sublime LMS account in the admin's institution. Students will create their account during the course enrollment process.

Account Administrators can enable open registration by selecting the Open Registration checkbox in account settings.

Note: You must have administrator access for your institution to change the open registration setting for the account.
